XIMENES

The pseudonym of the late Derrick Macnutt for crosswords in The Observer.

He succeeded Torquemada in 1939 as a setter of crosswords in The Observer, and started the Ximenes series of puzzles in 1945. He died in 1971 and his last puzzle, number 1200, was published in 1972. He was succeeded by Azed (Jonathan Crowther).
