Mark KELMANSON

Mark Kelmanson

Since 1992, under the pseudonym of Monk, Mark Kelmanson has set both blocked and barred cryptic crosswords for The Times, the Financial Times, The Independent, The Listener, Guardian Genius, The Independent Saturday Magazine, the Enigmatic Variations series in The Sunday Telegraph, Private Eye (Web edition) and other publications.

In the (dwindling!) spare time when Monk is not being a professor of applied mathematics at Leeds University, he is a keen dry-stone waller who enjoys long walks in both Yorkshire and the Scottish Highlands and Islands, with any permutation or combination of his wife, grumpy old Jack Russell and happy-go-lucky collie cross.

Richard KILNER

Richard Kilner was the setter, from 1959 to 1973, of the Mephisto barred crossword in The Sunday Times. After Kilner's death in 1973, the Mephisto crossword was set by Richard Whitelegg.


Tim KING

Tim sets thematic crosswords, as Encota for The Listener, Enigmatic Variations, Inquisitor and The Magpie.
